It was red and black versus red and white in the second match in group D at Lisebergshallen. Canada versus Denmark. A hard fight which ended with a Danish victory with the score 2-7 (1-2, 0-2, 1-3)
It was not goals galore as it was in the other match from group D earlier in the day, but Canada and Denmark did offer the crowd a hard, yet fair, fight.
Canada took the lead through Chris Haigh after Steffen Jensen got a penalty. It woke up the Danish lads. First they got to cheer for a goal that did not count before Stefan Hedorf scored 1-1. Mark Krogsgaard then scored 1-2 with a long shot in the top corner right before the end of the first period and Niklas Jensen followed up with number three. When Steffen Jensen later scored 1-4, during a delayed penalty for Canada, it felt like Denmark was in control.
However, the red team from across the Atlantic did not give up without a fight. They scored 2-4 early in the third period and Canada pushed for yet another goal but when Brian Nielsen scored 2-5 during a fast break, the Canadian team just collapsed. Stefan Hedorf scored an additional two goals and completed a hat trick and the match ended 2-7 to Denmark.
