In connection to the Championship’s opening ceremony, the traditional lightning ceremony takes place at Götaplatsen, December 5th at 5 o’clock.

According to tradition, the inner city of Gothenburg is transformed to a sea of lights. You can walk from the harbour to the amusement park Liseberg on a four-kilometre long road of lights where houses, trees, squares and bridges are beautifully lit.
Stop at Götaplatsen and see the spectacular Christmas movie which is projected on the front of the Museum of Art. The movie is fifteen minutes long and shown several times a day. This year, the movie’s name is “Julia’s dream”.
Enjoy Christmas carolling from the Singing Christmas Tree at Drottningtorget, where different choirs perform classical Christmas carols daily.
And why not take the opportunity to visit Liseberg? The amusement park is transformed into a magical winter wonderland with carousels and the biggest Christmas market in Scandinavia. And everything is alight with the glow from five million Christmas lights.
Of course there are yummy Christmas buffets with classic dishes, world-class Christmas shows and tons if Christmas markets and shops you can visit for some relaxed Christmas shopping.
