Slovakia started off Monday’s matches by winning their second match in a row in group C. This means Korea just suffered their second big loss. Slovakia ended up winning the game 15-2 (5-1, 4-1, 6-0).
Korea was no match for the Slovaks in Lisebergshallen. However, Korea scored the first goal of the match. JunOh Lee scored 0-1 in power play after just over six minutes. It took Slovakia about five minutes to answer, but what an answer it was. They scored three goals in an unbelievable 22 seconds.
In the second period, Korea got several penalties which came back to haunt them. Slovakia scored three goals in power play and when Korea finally had the chance to even out the score, with the Slovaks playing one man down, Slovakia still scored. With Martin Grlicky and Martin Kubovic free in front of the Korean goalkeeper Park, Kubovic could easily score 9-1. JongSuk Shin evened out the score to 9-2 before the end of the period.
Korea changed goalkeepers for the third period, but it really did not help. The Slovaks kept on scoring with a final score of 16-2 to Slovakia where both Jan Kominek and Martin Joscak contributed with a hat trick.
This victory means that Slovakia is through to the play offs, if USA beats Japan later today.
