Record was broken when Sweden defeated Latvia

12/6/2014 9:18:13 PM -

Sweden, favoured to win, began its quest towards the gold medals with a victory against Latvia when the World Floorball Championship began on home court in Gothenburg.  In the end, Sweden won 11-2 (5-1, 6-1, 0-0) against Latvia.

Already after 12 minutes, Sweden was in the lead 5-1, and the score was 11-2 before the third period had even begun. Martin Östholm, who normally plays for the Gothenburg team Pixbo Wallenstam, was more than pleased after the match.
− It was so much fun. It was a great team effort and we had nine different scorers. So everyone contributed, he says.

There were 7528 people on the stands, which is a new record for a match in group play in any WFC. The earlier record was twelve years old. The Swedish fans raised the roof of Scandinavium and cheered on the players. And it was appreciated by Östholm.
− It is awesome to have such a big crowd. They were on fire, he says.

Kim Nilsson, who plays professional in Switzerland, was Sweden’s best scorer with three goals, making it the third hat trick of the day.
On Sunday, Sweden plays against Germany at 15.15 in the second match of the group play. Germany lost their first match against Finland with 9-2.
