Then Karl Förare had an excellent opportunity to increase the lead, but Germany's goalkeeper Janek Kohler saved and with four minutes left the Germans evened the score thanks to Maximilian Falkenberger.

The teams continued to play equal in the second period. USA once again took the lead when Karl Förare finally scored on Kohler. The Germans replied through Alexander Burmeister and Janos Broker to 2-3 but Robin Brown evened the score for USA before the period ended.

Mattias Hansen was also a two-time scorer when he evened out the score with nine minutes left. USA and especially Alexander McVey fought to even the score with only four minutes left and sudden death awaited.

In overtime Jesse Andersson got an unnecessary penalty after only 20 seconds. USA got through the Germans power play, but just as the team was back to full strenght Dominic Mucha passed to a free Alexander Burmeister who scored 5-6 in sudden death.
