Finland was too hard a challenge for Latvia

12/7/2014 2:47:17 PM -

Latvia has had a rough start on the WFC2014, but their first two games have been against the two teams favoured to battle it out in the final. Latvia did well today in the game against Finland, but the Finns were, as expected, too hard a challenge and they won 7-1 (3-0, 1-0, 3-1).

As expected, Finland was the team in control in the match against Latvia. The Latvian players did well in the first period and they had great shots at a goal. After five minutes, Latvia had a great opportunity to equal to 1-1, but instead the Finns scored a breakaway goal to 2-0. Latvia chose to take a time-out when Finland later scored goal number three.

It paid off, at least in defense. Latvia kept the Finns away for the rest of the period and the Finns only managed to score on Normunds Krumins once in the second period.

Finland kept control of the match in the second period, but Latvia made them work for it. However, the Latvian shots lacked in precision and were easy saves for the Finnish goal keeper.

Finland scored twice in fast succession in the third period and killed the match. Artis Savin scored a consolation goal for Latvia before Eemeli Salin scored the last goal of the match, which ended 7-1

Germany awaits Latvia tomorrow in Group A and it will then be decided which team places third in the group. Finland will play against Sweden on Tuesday in what is looking to be a group final.
