A fight between captains when USA beat Canada

12/12/2014 4:52:54 PM -

The North American derby was a prestigious match. USA and Canada also played an even match when the captains led their teams. Karl Förare and USA won the fight with 5-4 (0-2, 4-1, 1-1).

Canada controlled the first period and took the lead thanks to their talented team captain Lauri Hannelius. Andrew Radjenovic later scored 0-2 and before the end of the period Canada had a two-goal lead. USA, who disappointedly lost against Germany yesterday, did not seem like they had their head in the game.

However, this changed in the second period. USA scored four goals in a row in just under ten minutes, where team captain Karl Förare scored both the first and last goal. Joel Inouye evened out the score for Canada when he got free in front of America's goal keeper Terence Frank and easily scored 4-3.

Canada's dream to even the score never came true in the beginning of the third period. Instead, USA could control the game and also increase their lead. Mattias Hansen scored 5-3, when ten minutes remained. However, a penalty for USA gave Canada the chance. And team captain Hannelius took it and scored 5-4. Canada wanted to even the score but did not succeed. USA's victory means 11th place and Canada ended in 12th place.
